Home Remedies to Deal With Dandruff and Oily Scalp.

 

When the excess skin cells start accumulating on the scalp, the oil mixes with the overtly produced cells causing itchiness and irritation, forming flakes on the scalp called dandruff. Dandruff is a common hair problem. It arises amongst people using harsh shampoo, who may have dry skin, oily skin, false diet or fungal infection. Stressing and other skin diseases may also induce dandruff.

There may not be a perfect formula to cure dandruff, yet there are methods to control the condition. The primary requirement is to wash the dandruff prone hair, regularly with oily scalp and dandruff shampoo. Shampooing helps clear the yeast on the scalp that may otherwise increase the problem of dandruff. There are useful natural home remedies developed to deal with oily scalp and dandruff.

  • Garlic- It has anti-microbial properties that control inflammation of the skin. Mince some garlic cloves and apply directly on the scalp. Alternatively, one can mix it with honey and then apply, to reduce its smell.
  • Curd is one of the most common home remedial products. It has lactic acid which benefits the hair health. When a fermented curd is applied on the scalp and kept for an hour, it rinses off most of the flakes. One can use it every other time they wash their hair, to prevent dandruff.
  • Olive oil is another remedial product that moisturises the hair. One can use a cup of olive oil while applying a few drops of it on the scalp using fingers and massaging gently. If kept for about 20-30 minutes and then washed off with mild shampoo will prevent dandruff. Also, it helps improve the texture of the hair.
  • Coconut oil has properties that prevent hair breakage, baldness, grey hair and hair loss. It is naturally cold and thus, treats inflammation on the skin and the scalp. Also, the anti-microbial properties kill the organisms causing dandruff. Coconut oil can be applied in the night and washed off in the morning with shampoo for oily dandruff scalp.
  • Lemon juice has acidic properties that can clear the fungi causing dandruff. One can mix fresh lemon juice of about a teaspoon with lukewarm water and wash their hair with it. Alternatively, few tablespoons of the lemon juice can be applied directly into the scalp and later rinsed off with water.
  • Fenugreek seeds have acidic properties that prevent hair-fall, the thinness of hair and dandruff. Soak some fenugreek seeds overnight in water and blend them into a paste. This paste can be applied on the scalp and left for an hour. Later, it is washed off ardently with mild shampoo and water.
  • Apple cider vinegar powerfully acts on the fungus, causing dandruff which helps destroy it. Further, it reduces the inflammation, oiliness and itchiness in the scalp. When a solution of vinegar and water and used in equal amounts for washing the hair, fungal growth is controlled to prevent dandruff and turns out one of the most effective home remedial methods.

Along with the hair care shampoo for oily scalp and dandruff, trying any of the above natural remedies can help bring relief to the problem.
